With there being a few big games on our screens this weekend, we have a lot to look forward to. We have the SEC Championship  game where the might of LSU go up against Georgia. Promises to be a good game but I can’t see that amazing LSU defence being pushed as hard as it was against Alabama, so I see them keeping their 100 percent record. We also have Oklahoma @ Oklahoma St. in a massive match up in Bedlam. After they lost to Iowa State, Oklahoma State need a massive game, and one would think, a large win difference to force themselves to number two in the polls, to earn the right to face LSU in the BCS bowl. You get the feeling that thte Crimson Tide will be watching both these games with a huge amount of interest!

NFL this weekend has some cracking match ups. With Green Bay on the road at the Giants, they have a serious test of their unbeaten season. Can Eli be the man to stop them? Personally I don’t think so. At the moment, the way the Packers are playing, I can’t see the Giants getting within 10 points! Their defence as well as their offence are near the the top of their game at the moment and will just be to strong for them. Also what worries me for the Giants is turnovers, as Green Bay lead the league in interceptions and it’s not like Eli doesn’t give a couple of chances a game for them! And then we have the Broncos @ Vikings. Can they be the team that puts a stop on the Tebow express? For me this game depends on whether the Vikings can get some big plays out of their wide receivers, to then get their running game going. If they can get to 21 to 24 points on the board then they have a real chance against the Broncos. The Denver defence has been stellar this season, especially in the 4th quarter, and I would say them more than Tebow will decide this game. As for stopping Tebow, I would make him throw the ball as much as possible. Try and close all the lanes to stop him running and see what his arm can do. I would worry a lot less about that than the damage he does when running at the defence.

Personally can’t wait for Sunday and they are two games that are going to be action packed and fun to watch. Enjoy the weekend and may all your teams win, unless they are playing mine of course!

With the NFL well and truly going along nicely, how do you see the rest of the build up to the play-offs going. Do you see the Packers staying unbeaten? Any twists to the AFC, where all the races are still close? Will the injury to Matt Schaub derail the Texans? Are the Colts taking the Suck for Luck slogan a little too seriously!? It certainly has been an interesting season so far and the old adage is true, with any given Sunday, anything can happen. I mean even the Bills have a chance of the play-offs again! And with “Tebow Mania” sweeping Denver , could we see an offence led by him going to the play-offs, especially with the west being a seemingly week division. As for my Seahawks, well the less said about them the better!

Also the college hoops are under way, and I’m already looking forwward to March! Early season predictions. Will it be UNC all the way or will someone snatch the crown that a lot of people are predicting?

Watch all the action as it happens at Bodeans.

Hibernation

24Aug11

It’s a funny, yet understandable, quirk of many animals to sleep through the winter to save energy and to survive the cold. Survival of the species is very important but missing a few months of th summer instead makes far more sense to me! So the weather is nicer and the days are longer… whatever! Just look at what’s coming and tell me you would miss all this!

We have college football back next weekend and the NFL back (just) the weekend after that. The Premier League is already back on and the draw for the Champions League is tomorrow. The baseball is starting to reach a crescendo and head to the play-offs. Also there is a rugby world cup around the corner. What more could you ask for!

So why oh why would you sleep through the winter!

So Close

09Jun11

Wow, how close can the finals be. Both the Stanley Cup and the NBA Finals sitting at a very tatsy 2 games each, all is to play for. A whole season is now going to be decided, in what is basically now, a 3 game series and as we all know any outcome is possible in a short series. The American networks must be jumping for joy with the close series as their marketing revenue will be through the roof!

I’m still pulling for the Canucks but it is anyone’s guess where the trophies end up. Watch all the games here at Bodeans and here’s hoping for some game 7 magic!

Well its been an exciting time and now it gets truly nail-biting for some. With the Cauncks and the Bruins getting through to the Stanley Cup finals, I am fully expecting this to be 7 1 goal games, a couple of overtime winners and many people not to leave the edge of their seat. 2 very good teams and it should be a hell of a series.

With the basketball and Dallas v the Heat, these games will be hard to call. I said at the start of the playoffs that with their line up it’s hard to look past the Heat but if Dirk can get his way then Lebron and his friends are going to find themselves in hot bother as that boy can shoot!

And we just had the final of the Champions league where Barca handed Man Utd a footballing lesson. They were a joy to watch and a different class in the game.

Prediction time …… Going for Vancouver and Miami.

So we are right at the business end of the playoffs now with the Divisional Championships on the line. After declaring my support for the Canucks I fully expected them to fold and depart, but lo and behold they got through! So they now do battle with the Sharks for the right to meet the Bruins or the Lightning. I have to say that after the opening win in the series I can’t wait to see the Canucks in the Stanley Cup! – This can only go well!

As far as the basketball is concerned did anybody pick the Lakers going out like that. Wow they were destroyed by Dallas. So now you put Dallas as the favourites from the West, then who would your pick be from, the east. Lebron and the heat or Rose and the Bulls. I’m kind of hoping for the Bulls to come through, even though they finished top of the pile as far the league goes many people would still consider them the underdogs against the free spending Heat. All I can say is expect so fast moving and free scoring games.

As always know that we will be showing all the action at Bodeans as well as the best of the MLB .

Playoff Time

03May11

So here we are in the midst of the Conference semifinals of both the NHL and the NBA. Do you think the Bruins have what takes to go all the way this year or do you think that the Sharks have what it takes? I’ll be pulling for the Canucks this year and now I’ve made that public, expect them to exit post haste against the Predators!

With the basketball its hard to look past the might of the Heat and the Lakers and fully expect them to be contesting the NBA Finals later in the month. They are both so strong that you feel that they can win in second gear. Here’s hoping that someone can surprise us all.

We will have every NHL anb NBA game on at the branches so come and check out the latest games daily!

Angst…

11Apr11

We all know that as sports fans that there will be agony and ecstasy along the way. Ups and downs that hit harder than they probably should. The end results of a fixture or season can define our mood for the hour or the day or longer depending on the magnitude of the occasion. So here I am writing this as a self confessed Chelsea and Seattle Mariners fan preparing for my next mood change!

There is a small fixture tomorrow evening in the Champions league, catch it at Soho and Tower, between man utd and Chelsea that will either mean agony or ecstasy for me and the other fans. I am not looking forward to this thinking it will be a great match etcetera but all I am feeling is angst. That feeling that won’t go away. This game is massive and as Chelsea are 1-0 down at half time, so to speak,  it’s looking a bit bleak but one can hope. We came down from 1-0 down at half time at Stamford Bridge in the recent league game and we beat them at Old Trafford last season so one hopes of victory but always that feeling in my stomach…

Now with the baseball season 10 days old, we still have a long way to go. Over 94% of the season remains, But I have a bad feeling for my M’s. We are 2-7, with an offence that is anaemic again! We had one of the worst offences of all time last year and though while the sample sizes are small. And yes regression to the mean is still a possibility. And yes I know if the Rays and the Twins will improve on offence so can the M’s. With so many many players not performing as they should they have to get better right? After last season though, what I feel is that feeling in your stomach. That nervous feeling that won’t go away. Angst…

So who out there believed that the highest seed through to the Final Four would be UConn? I know I didn’t! And with them facing off against Kentucky there will be at least an 8 see getting through to the Championship game.  Did you know that this is the first time that a 1 or 2 seed has not made it into the final 4 in the tournaments history? Wow.

You have to say that Butler have to be favourites in the other Semi but everyone has been favourites against VCU so far so that is nothing new! But it will be new to Butler who have been nursing the underdog title so far but now will have some extra pressure to play with whilst VCU have nothing to lose so that could go either way.  Butler have already made history in the fact that they are the first team to qualify for the Final Four two years in a row without carrying the number 1 or 2 seed in either year.

Well I’m hoping that VCU can go all the way as it would be an amazing story for them and also for the organisers of the tourny, as they were both told by everyone in the media how they were not good enough to be there, how other teams are better than them and more deserving. I wonder if these same people will still argue that point?

Well the first weekend of the tournament is over and a great weekend it was. My brackets are mostly in tatters but I still have 5 of my Elite Eight left in it so still plenty of time to come back! With great wins for teams like Richmond and VCU the Southwest Bracket has been mostly destroyed! Makes me believe that the road to the final four was made a lot easier for Kansas though.

With only one team in each of the other brackets breaking the seeding they remain being very tight. With Pittsburgh going out the Southeast bracket and people saying that Florida are the weakest two seed in the tourney then it’s now anyone’s guess who will come out of there.

With  a great result for Chelsea at the weekend as well the only bad thing sporting wise was the England result in the rugby, where we seemed to be outclassed and out thought for most of the game. Oh well, as they say, you can’t have everything. Which is a shame as that is exactly what I want!

See you over the the weekend as our coverage of the Sweet Sixteen starts on Friday and we have live Elite Eight on Saturday and Sunday.
